Additional insured
A person or organization added to certain liability coverages by endorsement; the concept does not automatically extend to workers' compensation coverage.
In workers' compensation paperwork, “additional insured” is often requested alongside a certificate of insurance, but the phrase does not prove that the requester is covered under the workers' compensation policy. Workers' compensation is a statutory benefit system for covered workers, not ordinary third-party liability coverage.
Texas insurance guidance illustrates the distinction: a certificate may describe an additional-insured endorsement only when the policy actually contains it, and approved certificate language can expressly exclude workers' compensation and employers' liability. A certificate itself does not create or amend coverage.
