Certificate of election
A state-issued or state-recognized document confirming an approved owner or officer election when the jurisdiction uses a filing-based exclusion process.
Some states use a certificate after an owner, officer, or member makes a statutory election concerning workers' compensation coverage. The exact title, eligibility test, duration, and legal effect are state-specific.
Florida uses the title “Certificate of Election to be Exempt” for qualifying corporate officers and LLC members and requires an application through the Division of Workers' Compensation. A certificate is not interchangeable with every other state's exemption form or with a certificate of insurance.
