Executive officer
A corporate officeholder defined by state workers' compensation law; some states permit a qualifying executive officer to reject or seek exclusion from coverage.
“Executive officer” is a statutory workers' compensation term in some states rather than a generic management label. Virginia defines it to include specified elected or appointed corporate officers and certain LLC managers, and treats those persons as employees unless an authorized rejection applies.
Pennsylvania also has a formal executive-officer exclusion process with ownership or nonprofit conditions. A title such as director, chairman, or manager does not automatically create the same workers' compensation status in every state.
