General partner
A partner with general management and liability status under partnership law; workers' compensation treatment of the partner personally is state-specific.
In workers' compensation owner-coverage rules, general partners are often treated differently from ordinary employees, but the result is not uniform nationwide. Some states exclude partners by default and allow elective coverage; others impose special rules for certain industries or business structures.
Pennsylvania lists sole proprietors and general partners among excluded categories for the owner personally, while Washington provides an elective-coverage route for partners. Employees of the partnership remain a separate coverage question.
