Single-member LLC
An LLC with one member; the member's workers' compensation status is determined by state owner rules and can differ sharply between jurisdictions and industries.
A single-member LLC is a business-entity description, not a workers' compensation exemption by itself. States may automatically exclude the member, treat the member as an employee, or permit an election depending on management status, ownership, industry, and whether other workers are present.
Washington generally excludes members in a member-managed LLC subject to its published exceptions. Florida allows qualifying LLC members to seek exemption but applies special construction requirements. A federal tax classification does not replace the state workers' compensation analysis.
